Grandparentage Test | EasyDNA Kenya

What can this test be used for?

  • When the paternity of an individual has come into question. By testing the alleged father’s grandparents and their grandchild or grandchildren, our DNA test can confirm whether they are biological relatives.
  • Cases of adoption. Adopted children can be reunited with their biological families by confirming whether they are related to the people they suspect might be their grandparents

Grandparentage DNA test options

A grandparentage test must be carried out with BOTH grandparents (we refer to this as a duo grandparentage test). When both grandmother and grandfather are available for testing, the accuracy of the test results is significantly improved. Without one of the grandparents, the accuracy of our test could be compromised and we thus, only offer this test when both grandparents are available.

In a duo grandparentage test, we confirm the probability of relationship of each grandparent with their grandchild.  Moreover, we can also reconstruct the missing grandchild’s missing parent DNA profile. Using the untested parent’s DNA profile, the laboratory will compare the genetic markers between that sample of the reconstructed profile and the sample of the grandchild whose paternity has been put into question.

In cases where only a single grandparent, male or female, is available for the DNA grandparentage test, EasyDNA cannot perform the analysis. The single grandparentage test is not as accurate and we do not offer it.

Important Notes

Test results are intended to provide a statistical likelihood that gives evidence to support the tested relationship in question. Providing additional parties to be tested (for example, a known parent’s sample) or performing direct relationship testing may provide additional evidence.

We can only guarantee standard result turnaround time when testing takes place solely using oral swab samples. Using a forensic sample for your test may lead to an increase in turnaround time.

We strongly suggest including the sample of a known parent to provide stronger results.

Why not consult a genetic counsellor about your results?

Our genetic counsellor is ideal if you have any concerns about your DNA test results. They can understand and interpret all aspects of your results, helping you understand any technical language you do not know, answer all your questions or simply explain the results to you. Once you have ordered the service, our genetic counsellor will get in touch with you to organize the date and time of the actual call. The session discussing your results will take place via Skype.
